Cold Outreach Sequence

Definition

A cold outreach sequence is a structured multi-touch campaign — typically 5 to 9 emails, LinkedIn messages, and calls over 2 to 4 weeks — designed to start a conversation with a prospect who has never heard of you.

Why it matters in B2B GTM

Single-touch cold outreach barely works. Reply rates climb meaningfully when the sequence has multiple touches across multiple channels, because most prospects need to see your name two or three times before they take a meeting.

Strong sequences have an arc: the first touch introduces a specific pain and a credibility hook; middle touches add proof, a case study, or a new angle; the breakup touch gives the prospect an easy out and almost always pulls the highest single reply rate.

Personalization beats volume. A 50-account sequence personalized at the company level outperforms a 5,000-account blast in almost every measurable way — replies, meetings booked, and cost per opportunity.
